What does a weight-distribution hitch (WDH) or load equalizing hitch do and is it compatible with my vehicle’s air levelling system?

    in Build Your Trailer

A weight distribution hitch (aka “load equalizing hitch”) does just what the name says — it is a hitch that evenly distributes the weight of your payload. It works by using adjustable spring bars and tension to distribute the load of the trailer tongue to the trailer and vehicle axles. Many front wheel drive vehicles will require an equalizer hitch.

While our WDH may be incompatible with some vehicles with Air Levelling Suspension System, we highly recommend that our customers research and review the air bag system of your vehicle. With continually changing technology in the auto industry, each vehicle make and model specifies their own setup procedure for interfacing WDH and levelling systems.

I totally agree that you need to use a WDH. I have a question??? about the E2 fastway. I really need to know how much the shank and ball portion of it weighs. I have tried to find it online. Problem: today I have a wonderful Blue OX sway pro. However picking up and putting the shank and trailer ball into and out of my truck is nearly impossible as it is so heavy. I did get one of those grip holders that helps distribute the weight but I would say mine is well over 50lbs.. I need to put it in the truck receiver tow the trailer then when I get to my destination, remove it so I can get my mountain bike rack in the receiver on the truck. Thank you

    Hello @eltdhd,

The E2 by Fastway ball mount weighs in around 42lbs.
