Looking for real-world experience and recommendations from Escape owners about towing a brand new Escape 19 with newer Tacoma. We have an E19 on order for spring 2022 and are considering purchasing a new Tacoma (preferred) or Tundra, just want to make sure Tacoma can handle the trailer without problems. We live on Vancouver Island and will be making occasional trips to the mainland including trips up the Coquihalla(long steep mountain highway in British Columbia). Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. The cooler and airbags upgrade sounds like a good idea.
I tow our new 21NE with a 2015 Tacoma V6 that has the "towing package." Strongly suggest that you have air bags installed. Also, even if your Tacoma comes with the tow package you should have the transmission cooler replaced with a larger one. I was coached by a very good friend that owns a car repair in my city that the transmission cooler Toyota installs is much too small to protect the transmission from a lot of use going up hills. Since my Tacoma is a bit older (I assume the newer models get a little better gas mileage), the mileage is only about 13-14 mpg on the flats and 10-11 mpg on the hills. Tows great on the flats! We do like having the smaller truck (vs Tundra) when driving without a trailer. However, since the gas tank is only 17 gallons, we do have to stop for gas more than those owning larger trucks with larger gas tanks. I think a Tacoma would work well for you as long as you take your time going uphill and install the items suggested.
I towed my 2017 19 foot with a 2016 Tacoma with no issues. I have a 21C on order and will keep towing with the Tacoma. On steep passes it wants to gear down a little more then I like but it’s something I can live with. On the flats I get good mileage and you can’t feel the trailer behind the truck.
