Turning off the ems is just the answer that I needed to understand why I was not getting any current to the trailer. Now that I know what was happening I can go about fixing the problem with a ground plug. Thanks for the advise everyone.
Read through this thread on "the other forum" for some useful information and advice about why you want to keep your EMS active rather than bypass it.

NOT a recommended solution! It will solve the issue but leaves your trailer and appliances vulnerable to electrical anomalies. That's why the EMS is there in the first place.

I just read about this issue with certain generators. Go to the link below for an explanation of the issue. It is a bit technical but good to develop an understanding and far better than I could explain it.
