Finally am asking a question about fiberglass repair on this website. Unfortunately, last summer Chris backed into a fence post and scraped the side of our 17B slightly, on the ridge between the upper and lower halves of the trailer frame. It’s just a small scrape (about 4 inches long), however it went deep enough to expose the interior wall. What is the best way to repair a fiberglass scrape or crack? I looked up some repair materials with Home Depot and found tub repair resin, Bondo repair resin (turns brown upon drying) and resin for boats. What is the best material? Also, after application, how do we smooth the scrape to shine it up and match the rest of the exterior? Sorry to ask so late, the holidays crept up on us! Our 17B is winterized now, but the repair (covered with duct tape), is still needed. Some help with this repair would be welcomed!

Hello @Chris&Carol,
The hole should be filled with Bondo Filler as you have suggested and then sanded and covered with gel coat to cover the Bondo repair. There are gel coat kits that you can purchase to finish off the repair, the kit will have tint kits which will let you match the existing color of the trailer. If you are inexperienced with this type of work we would suggest locating a local fiberglass specialist such as a boat or automotive repair facility to have them assess and repair as necessary.
