The bunks enable you to (as needed) turn the front dinette / single bed into bunk beds, effectively adding a second tier bed above the first, at about the same level as the top of the nearby wardrobe. The benefits are that you get another sleeping position, more suited for a child, but still. Also since it may be very difficult to add later, due to anchor points being built into the shell, it can increase resale value to have. The only drawback would probably be the extra cost (if you don't really need it) and possibly a little extra weight, but then you could always just store the upper bed platform somewhere at home until you need it.
