Dear Escapees & Mgt: Wow, we have another problem. Try as we might we cannot get the hitch lock for our 17B trailer to engage so that we can lock it down. We’ve tried for two hours now without success. We’ve made sure the trailer is level front to back and side to side. It ALMOST engages but not quite! This is the first time since we bought the trailer a year ago that we’ve had this problem. Could the lock mechanism be defective (due to wear), loosen up overtime? Could the truck ball hitch need maintenance? We are forced to head to our next destination without the lock engaged before it gets too late, as we do not want to travel in the dark. Any suggestions are welcomed!

Strongly advise AGAINST traveling with hitch lock not engaged. Try spraying some WD40 or a Silicone or Teflon spray on the ball and and hitch lock. Lithium grease on the ball can help it seat fully as well. Final thought, sometimes a quick "jerk" forward or back can drop the ball into a position to allow the lock to engage.
